Itinerary for: Classical Greece Without Flying (14GRKV/1)

14-Day Break
- Day 1 – Local departure by coach then onwards to northern France for an overnight stay
- Day 2 – Continue south through France and into Italy to the Lake Como/Milan area for an overnight stay. B,D
- Day 3 – We head across Italy to the port of Ancona for the overnight ferry to Igoumenitsa in Greece. B,
- Day 4 – Meteora (included). Arrival at Igoumenitsa port in the morning then we follow the scenic road to Ioannina for a short stop at this beautiful town with its impressive lake. Continue onward to Meteora, possibly one the most impressive sites in Greece. Meteora, (literally meaning ‘hanging from the sky’) are gigantic rock formations in a scenic setting. On top of these rocks hide stunning monasteries. We will meet with our local guide and will visit at least two of the monasteries. D
- Day 5 – Delphi (included). Head south, through the mountains of central Greece towards Delphi, located on the side of Mount Parnassos. We will meet with our local guide and will be visiting the site and the museum. Later we continue via the picturesque village of Arachova, to Athens. B,D
- Day 6 – Athens with Guided Tour (included); Cape Sounion and Poseidon (optional). This morning we
meet with our guide and take a panoramic tour of the Athens, passing the most important monuments and landmarks, including the House of Parliament, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Constitution Square, the Presidential Palace, the National Library and the Panathinaikon Stadium. We will also be visiting the Acropolis (please note that the museum of Acropolis is temporarily closed). Our morning tour will continue with a short walk in the famous Plaka area, where we will enjoy a lunch at a typical Greek tavern. In the afternoon, you can take an optional tour along the coastal road of Attica to Cape Sounion, for a guided visit to the temple of Poseidon. B,L
- Day 7 – Saronic Islands (optional). Time at leisure to explore Athens at your own pace. Alternatively, join our optional magnificent day cruise to explore the nearby Saronic Islands of Aegina, Poros and Hydra. Enjoy lunch on board ship before a late afternoon arrival back at the port of Piraeus and transfer to Athens.
This evening, you can enjoy an optional dinner at a typical Greek restaurant with live music and folk-dance show. B
- Day 8 – Corinth Canal (included); Epidaurus (included); Nafplion (included). We leave Athens this morning and begin driving along the coastal road towards the Corinth Canal. Enjoy a short stop for photos at this magnificent feat of engineering, then continue to Epidaurus. We meet with our guide and enjoy a guided visit to the magnificent amphitheatre of Epidaurus, famous for its acoustics. Our day continues to Nafplion (the first capital of modern Greece). Free time to explore one of the most beautiful towns of the Peloponnese. In the afternoon we will take a short drive to the nearby resort village of Tolo, and our hotel for two nights. B,D
- Day 9 – Corinth and Nemea (optional). A free day, today for you to relax and enjoy the sun and the sea. Alternatively, you can join an optional excursion to ancient Corinth, and to the nearby Nemea region, famous for its wine production, where you will have the chance for som winetasting. B,D
- Day 10 – Mycenae (included). We leave Tolo this morning and drive towards Mycenae. We meet with our guide and take a guided visit to the site of Mycenae with the famous Lion’s Gate and Agamemnon’s Tomb. We continue our drive via Tripolis and Megalopolis and arrive at Olympia for overnight B,D
- Day 11 – Olympia (included). We begin our day at the home of the first Olympic games. Meet with our local guide and visit the site of ancient Olympia and of course the outstanding museum. B
- Day 12 – We disembark in Ancona and head north to the Lake Garda region for an overnight stay. D
- Day 13 – Travel through Austria and Germany to later reach Belgium and our overnight hotel. B
- Day 14 – Travel to Calais, then return home. B
16-Day Break
For only a little extra, our 16-day option provides extra leisure time in the resort of Tolo where you will stay for two extra nights
- Days 1-9 – As the 14-day holiday, above.
- Days 10-11 – Two extra nights in Tolo. B,D
- Days 12-16 – As days 10-14 of the 14-day holiday, above.

In Greece you’ll stay for one night in Kalambaka at the 3-star hotel Orfeas or similar, followed by three nights in
Athens at the 4-star Hotel Stanley or similar.
In Tolo you will stay for two nights (or four nights on the 16-day holiday) at the 3-star Hotel Minoa or similar, and then one night at the 3-star Olympic Village or similar in Olympia.
Overnight stays in northern France, northern Italy and Belgium are in city-style hotels. Overnight in Lake Garda area will be in a 3-star hotel.
