Day 1:

Welcome to Rome! Be amazed by the Italian driving skills on the way to the hotel. Tonight, enjoy a Welcome Drink with your Tour Director and touring friends.

Hotel: Aran Mantegna

Day 2:

Our sightseeing tour includes a visit to St. Peter's Basilica where we see the Pieta, one of the masterpieces of Michelangelo. Later we overlook the Roman Forum, see the mighty Colosseum, where the gladiators fought to the death, and the Circus Maximus, where chariot racing took place in ancient Rome. Then time to learn how to make pizza the Italian way! (Buffet breakfast)

Day 3:

Chianti wine-producing region to the beautiful medieval town of Siena and take a stroll through the cobbled streets to the spacious Campo Square where the colourful Palio bareback horse race takes place every year. The race only lasts two minutes but is the most important event of the year. Then we head for the Renaissance city of Florence, where we enjoy a Highlight Dinner tonight. (Buffet breakfast / Highlight Dinner)

Hotel: Grand Hotel Mediterraneo

Day 4:

Our walking tour features the colourful marble cathedral, Signoria Square and a visit to Santa Croce church where great Italians , including Michelangelo , are buried. Later , we enjoy the amazing view over the city from Piazzale Michelangelo before we have the chance to taste different flavours of mouthwatering ice-cream in the city where it was invented by Bernard Buontalenti!. (Buffet breakfast)

Day 5:

We drive over the forested Apennine Hills via Forli to Ravenna. We stop to visit the Basilica of Saint Apollinaris in Classe with its stunning colourful Byzantine mosaics. Then we continue through part of the delta of the River Po and past ‘fisherman’s Venice’ , the town of Chioggia , to the waterbound city of Venice, built on over 200 islands in the lagoon more than a 1000 years ago! (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Hotel: Novotel Venezia Mestre Castellana

Day 6:

Our private cruise takes us to St. Mark’s Square where we see the Bridge of Sighs, where condemned prisoners caught their last glimpse of the city , the Doge’s Palace, St. Mark’s Basilica and the Campanile. We watch how glass is blown then have the chance to learn all about the great Venetian tradition of Carnival masks and paint and decorate one of our own! Today our Tour Director shares one of the many Hidden Treasures of Venice with us all and there is still time to cruise across the lagoon in a private boat to discover the colourful island of Burano and enjoy a delicious seafood lunch. (Buffet breakfast)

Day 7:

Today we drive westwards across the Veneto plains and stop in Shakespeare’s Verona to see the Roman Arena and Juliet’s balcony. We continue past the commercial centre of Milan and head north to the Italian and Swiss Lake Districts via Como and Lugano. Then we take the scenic alpine St. Gotthard route into central Switzerland and arrive in the winter sports resort of Engelberg. (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Day 8:

This morning we take a short drive to Lucerne where we see the Lion Monument, which commemorates the heroism of the Swiss guards during the French Revolution, and walk over the wooden Chapel Bridge. Then there is the opportunity to take an exciting mountain excursion for amazing views and then time to shop for Swatches and all the many varieties of Swiss chocolate! (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)

Day 9:

Bonjour, as we head to the French border after crossing the River Rhine. From here our journey continues into the wine-producing region of Burgundy to view the Savigny-Lès-Beaune vineyards before we arrive in lively Paris. Tonight, the chance to see the illuminations and get to know this incredible city for the first time. (Buffet breakfast)

Hotel: Holiday Inn la Villette

Day 10:

This morning our guided sightseeing tour includes a drive along the Champs Élysées, views of Notre Dame and the ascent of the Eiffel Tower to the top level for incredible views of the city. Tonight, at the end of our European tour, we enjoy a special celebratory Farewell Dinner with our Tour Director and touring friends. (Buffet breakfast / Farewell Dinner)

Day 11:

We travel north through France, passing World War I battlefields, to reach the English Channel where we take the ferry to the port of Dover with its famous White Cliffs and then, finally, we drive up to London as our tour comes to an end. (Buffet breakfast)

Free airport transfers:

Transfers on Day 1 at Rome Fiumicino Airport will operate at 09.30, 12.30 and 15.30. Passengers arriving later should make their own way to the first hotel.
