DAY 2: Warsaw - Gdansk.

The country's capital, Warsaw suffered extensive damage during World War II but has since been lovingly restored to its former glory. Explore this beautiful city on an included sightseeing tour this morning, taking in sights such as the magnificent Royal Way - a wide avenue laden with impressive churches, palaces, art galleries and museums, the Old Town Square, and the best of the city's historic landmarks, including a wealth of fine Renaissance, Baroque and Gothic architecture. This afternoon, continue to Gdansk for two nights. (B, D)

DAY 3: Gdansk.

Also known as Danzig, Gdansk sits on the Baltic Coast and is home to Poland's largest seaport and a rich ship-building and maritime history. A focal point during World War II, the city endured heavy bombing but its legacy of Gothic, renaissance and Hanseatic architecture has since been faithfully restored. Today's included city sightseeing tour with a local guide takes in highlights such as the lovely Stare Miasto Old Town. Later, why not join the optional trip to nearby Malbork, a town founded by Teutonic Knights in the 13th century and home to Marienberg Castle, a Gothic brick fortress considered to be one of the most striking in Europe. (B, D)

DAY 4: Gdansk - Torun - Poznan.

Today, head to the beautiful medieval city of Torun. Nestled alongside the Vistula River, Torun is famed as the birthplace of Copernicus and one of the most charming cities in Poland, maintaining a rich heritage of Gothic architecture, Hanseatic Merchant Houses and a delightful 'Starowka' Old Town with UNESCO World Heritage status. Enjoy an included sightseeing tour before continuing to Poznan on the banks of the Warta River. A 1,000-year-old city, Poznan has a wonderful mix of Gothic and Baroque architecture, including a 10th-century cathedral, the Dzialynski Palace, 16th-century town hall clock and a fine opera house. The included city sightseeing tour takes in many of the local highlights. (B, D)

DAY 5: Poznan - Jasna Gora - Krakow.

Your first stop today is the monastery of Jasna Gora near Czestochowa, which houses the famous painting of the 'Black Madonna', venerated as the 'Queen of Poland' and the country's national symbol. This afternoon, continue to Krakow, Poland's cultural capital, for two nights. (B, D)

DAY 6: Krakow.

The ancient capital of Poland is the jewel in its sightseeing crown. At the city's heart is the largest and one of the most perfectly preserved medieval squares in the whole of Europe, Rynek Glowny, surrounded by impressive historic buildings. This morning, the included sightseeing tour of ancient Krakow takes in the historic Market Square, the 14th century Jagiellonian University, Wawel Castle and St Mary's Church, where the 14th-century kings of Poland were traditionally crowned. The rest of the day is free for you to explore at leisure or perhaps join the optional trip to the fascinating Wieliczka Salt Mines, a renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site. This evening, enjoy an optional polka party. (B)
